    Duramax Maintenance in Washington UT

L5P or LML — we service Duramax diesel trucks the way they deserve to be serviced.

    Call 435-256-8899

Duramax owners in Southern Utah tow, work, and off-road their trucks hard. We follow GM-recommended intervals adjusted for real-world Washington County use — because the factory schedule assumes commuter conditions, not I-15 grades in 110°F heat.

    ServiceIntervals

    Every 7,500 miles

Duramax diesel oil change with ACDelco DEX-1 (or approved equivalent), tire rotation, and multi-point inspection. Idle-heavy trucks and tow rigs move to the shorter side of this window.

    Every 15,000 miles

Fuel filter service — both filter heads on modern L5P. Allison transmission fluid level and condition check, engine air filter, and cabin filter.

    Every 30,000 miles

Allison 1000 transmission fluid & filter, brake fluid flush, transfer case fluid, front and rear differential service, and DEF system inspection.

    Every 60,000 miles

Full major service — injector health assessment, glow plug inspection, cooling system service, and comprehensive drivetrain health check with a photo-documented digital report.

    L5PSpecifics

    Updated CP4.2 Advisory

L5P Duramax uses the CP4.2. GM's design mitigations improved reliability over the LML era, but clean fuel and on-schedule filter service are still essential.

    DPF Maintenance Awareness

Diesel Particulate Filter regen behavior monitored on every scan. Aborted regens shorten DPF life dramatically — we diagnose the cause, not just the code.

    Allison 1000 Health Monitoring

Allison temperature, shift quality, and fluid condition tracked. Neglected Allison fluid is the fastest way to shorten this transmission's life.

    Turbo & Boost System

VGT actuator health, boost pressure verification, and intercooler condition — checked at annual service to catch problems before summer hauling.

    Common DuramaxIssues We See

    Injector Wear on High-Mileage Engines

LB7, LLY, LMM, LML — high-mileage Duramax engines eventually need injector service. We diagnose balance rates and knock counts, not guess.

    CP4 Pump (2011–2016 LML)

LML CP4.2 failures are well documented. We inspect fuel filter contents at every service and recommend disaster prevention kits when appropriate.

    Allison Neglect Failures

Original-fluid Allison transmissions in tow trucks are running on borrowed time. Fluid service transforms life expectancy.

    Cooling & DEF Sensors

Radiator, coolant hose, and DEF quality sensor issues top the drivability complaints we address on modern Duramax platforms.

    Frequently AskedQuestions

How often should I change the Duramax fuel filter?

GM's interval is 22,500 miles for L5P, but in Southern Utah — with off-brand diesel exposure, dust, and tow heat — we recommend 15,000 miles. The L5P has two filter heads (frame-mounted primary and engine-mounted secondary). Both get service together. Older LB7/LLY/LMM/LML platforms follow the same 15,000-mile logic. Clean fuel is the cheapest injector insurance you'll ever buy.

Does the Allison transmission need fluid service?

Absolutely — and this is the single biggest life-extender for a Duramax truck. The Allison 1000 responds dramatically to scheduled fluid & filter service every 30,000 to 60,000 miles under tow use. Neglected Allisons fail early. Serviced Allisons routinely reach 400,000+ miles behind a healthy Duramax. Do not skip this service.

Can you service or recalibrate the L5P Duramax?

We handle full L5P service — oil, fuel filter, transmission, cooling, injector diagnostics, and DEF system work. Emissions-compliant calibration options depend on the calibration package; we discuss what's legal and appropriate for your use case, and we do not perform modifications that violate emissions law.
