    DIESEL FUEL SYSTEM REPAIR

Injectors, CP3/CP4, and Lift Pump Work for Duramax, Power Stroke & Cummins | MST Motorsports | Washington UT

MST Motorsports diagnoses and repairs diesel fuel systems on Duramax, Power Stroke, and Cummins trucks across Washington, St George, and Hurricane. The fuel system on a modern diesel runs at 26,000 to 30,000 PSI and depends on every component working in spec — when something fails, it can take down the rest of the system in a hurry.

Diesel fuel work is one of the areas where experience matters most. We diagnose the actual problem — failed injector, dying high-pressure pump, contaminated fuel, weak lift pump, or wiring — before parts get thrown at it, because guessing on a $4,000 set of injectors isn't a viable strategy.

    Diesel FuelDiagnostics

Diesel fuel system problems show up as hard starting, low power, white or black smoke, fuel knock, codes for low rail pressure or injector imbalance, fuel in the oil, or a no-start. Each symptom points to a different component — and the diagnostic process is how we figure out which one.

We use OE-level scan tools to read injector balance rates, return flow data, fuel rail pressure under load, and lift pump supply pressure. We do return-rate testing on the injectors, pressure-test the supply side, and inspect fuel for water, debris, or contamination. The data tells us whether you need an injector, a high-pressure pump, a lift pump, a fuel filter, or something further upstream.

    InjectorReplacement & Service

Diesel injectors are precision components — the nozzle holes are smaller than a human hair, and they spray at pressures that would atomize a finger. When they fail, they fail in specific ways: stuck open, leaking back, weak spray pattern, or electrical fault. Each shows up differently on the diagnostic.

We replace injectors with quality OE or reputable aftermarket units, code them to the ECM where required, perform the proper break-in procedure, and check fuel return and rail pressure after the install to verify the repair. We also identify and address what caused the failure — fuel quality, contamination, or upstream pump issues — so you're not back in 30,000 miles.

    High-Pressure Pumps& Lift Pump Service

CP3, CP4.2, HEUI, and HPCR high-pressure pumps each have their own service and failure characteristics. CP4 failures on 6.7L Power Stroke and LML Duramax can grenade the entire fuel system if not caught — metal contamination spreads from the pump through the rails, lines, and injectors. We diagnose pump health and recommend appropriate repair, including CP4-to-CP3 conversions on Power Stroke where customers want the long-term reliability upgrade.

Lift pumps and fuel filters are the unsung heroes of fuel system longevity. A weak lift pump starves the high-pressure pump, accelerates wear, and shortens injector life. We replace OE lift pumps and offer upgrade options — AirDog, FASS, FCA — for customers who tow heavy or want maximum fuel system protection.

    Diesel Fuel SystemFAQs

Common signs are rough idle, white or black smoke, hard starting, low power, fuel knock under load, codes for cylinder misfire or injector imbalance, and fuel diluting the engine oil. The definitive test is injector balance rate and return flow testing — that data tells us whether the injectors are within spec or whether one or more are failing.

The CP4.2 is the high-pressure fuel pump used on 2011+ 6.7L Power Stroke and LML Duramax. It's known for catastrophic failures where the internal cam follower wears, generates metal debris, and spreads that debris through the entire fuel system — destroying injectors, rails, and lines. The fix is either a CP4-to-CP3 conversion (Power Stroke) or installing a disaster prevention device that catches debris before it spreads.

Yes. The CP3 is the proven, more durable pump from older Duramax trucks, and conversion kits are available for 6.7L Power Stroke. It's a worthwhile upgrade for customers who want long-term peace of mind, especially on tow rigs.

Yes — both. Aftermarket lift pumps deliver more consistent pressure and volume to the high-pressure pump, filter fuel better, and can extend the life of expensive fuel system components. We install AirDog and FASS systems on Cummins, Duramax, and Power Stroke and recommend them for tow rigs and high-mileage trucks.

Depends on the platform and how many. A full set of OE injectors on most heavy-duty diesels runs several thousand dollars in parts, plus labor for the install and coding. We always quote the actual job after diagnostic and discuss whether OE, reman, or aftermarket injectors make sense for your truck and use case.

Constantly. Many St George area customers tow 12,000–20,000+ lb loads to Sand Hollow and beyond. Summer pavement temps over 110°F and sustained I-15 climbs load cooling, transmission, and EGT hard — we service Power Stroke, Duramax, and Cummins fuel systems with that real-world use in mind, not generic spec sheets.

Ford Power Stroke (7.3L, 6.0L, 6.4L, 6.7L), GM Duramax (LB7, LBZ, LMM, LML, L5P), and Ram Cummins (5.9L 12v and 24v, 6.7L). Stock, modified, daily driver, work truck, or tow rig — we know the generation-specific failure patterns on each.
