Jeep solid axle suspensions use control arms to locate the axles and a track bar to center them under the vehicle. These components and their bushings are critical for proper handling, alignment retention, and preventing the dreaded death wobble that affects many Jeeps — particularly lifted ones.
On lifted Jeeps, factory control arms create incorrect caster and pinion angles that affect steering, drivability, and driveline vibration. We install adjustable control arms that allow proper geometry correction after lifting. Track bar condition is equally critical — a worn track bar bushing or bent track bar is one of the most common triggers for death wobble. We inspect, repair, and replace track bars and install heavy-duty replacements designed for lifted applications.
Death wobble is a violent oscillation of the front axle that occurs at highway speeds, usually triggered by a bump or road imperfection. It is not caused by a single component — it's the result of excessive play or wear in the front-end system that allows the axle to oscillate unchecked. Simply adding a steering stabilizer is not a fix; it only masks the underlying problem.
Our diagnostic process systematically inspects every front-end component: track bar and bushings, tie rod ends, drag link, ball joints, wheel bearings, unit bearings, control arm bushings, and steering box. We identify and replace all worn components, then verify alignment and steering geometry to eliminate the wobble at its source.
Sway bars (anti-roll bars) control body roll during cornering and lane changes. On trail-capable Jeeps, sway bar disconnects allow the axles to articulate freely off-road while reconnecting for on-road stability. Both manual quick-disconnect links and electronic disconnect systems require periodic service to maintain reliable operation.
We service sway bar links, bushings, electronic disconnect motors, and the sway bars themselves. For lifted Jeeps, we install extended sway bar links that accommodate the increased suspension travel and maintain proper sway bar geometry. Properly functioning sway bars are critical for safe on-road handling — especially on lifted Jeeps with a higher center of gravity.
Jeep Wrangler (JK, JL) and Gladiator (JT) solid axle alignment is fundamentally different from independent suspension alignment. On a solid axle, both wheels are connected to the same axle housing — camber is determined by the axle itself and isn't independently adjustable. The primary angles we adjust are toe (via tie rod) and caster (via control arm length).
Lifting a Jeep changes the angle of every control arm, which directly affects caster. A 2.5-inch lift can reduce caster by 2+ degrees — enough to make the Jeep feel unstable at highway speeds with poor steering return. We align lifted Jeeps equipped with adjustable control arms from Teraflex, Synergy, Metalcloak, and Rock Krawler by setting caster to the optimal angle for the lift height, then adjusting toe. Cherokee (XJ) uses the same solid-axle approach; Cherokee (KL) and Grand Cherokee (WK2, WL) use independent front suspension and follow the same alignment principles as lifted trucks. Death wobble is typically caused by worn or loose front-end components — most commonly the track bar, tie rod ends, ball joints, or wheel bearings. This requires different knowledge and approach than standard passenger car alignment.
Yes. We commonly align Jeeps with aftermarket adjustable control arms from Teraflex, Synergy, Metalcloak, Rock Krawler, and others. These adjustable arms allow us to correct caster after lifting — something that isn't possible with factory fixed-length arms on significant lifts.
Possibly, but pulling after off-road use can also indicate a bent tie rod, shifted track bar, worn ball joint, or damaged steering component. We inspect the front end before aligning so any adjustment corrects the real issue rather than covering a damaged component. If components are damaged, we repair those first.
