We see alignment problems most often on vehicles that have had suspension work done without a proper follow-up alignment, trucks running larger tires without geometry correction, and Jeeps and Broncos that have been wheeled hard and knocked components out of spec. Getting alignment right requires understanding the full suspension geometry — not just adjusting toe and calling it done.
The most common signs include the steering wheel sitting off-center, the vehicle pulling left or right, uneven tire wear on one or more tires (especially feathering on the inside or outside edge), and a vague or wandering feeling at highway speed. On Jeeps and trucks with lift kits, bump steer — a sudden jerk in the steering when hitting a bump — is often caused by incorrect caster angle or steering geometry that wasn't corrected for the new ride height.
If you've recently had suspension work done, changed tire size, hit something hard on the trail, or noticed any of these symptoms, an alignment check is a smart first step.
Lifting a vehicle changes its suspension geometry. Caster angles shift, pinion angles change, and the relationship between the steering linkage and the suspension travel is altered. If these changes aren't corrected, the result is accelerated tire wear, poor steering return, and in some cases, dangerous handling characteristics like death wobble or severe bump steer.
We perform post-lift alignment as a standard part of every lift kit installation we do. For vehicles that come to us with existing lifts — especially trucks and Jeeps with spacer lifts or improperly installed kits — we correct the geometry and set caster, camber, and toe to specs that account for the actual ride height, tire size, and intended use.
Caster is the alignment angle most affected by lifting a truck. Factory trucks typically run three to five degrees of positive caster, which is what gives the steering its stability and its return to center. Raising the truck changes the upper and lower control arm angles relative to the frame, and on most lifted trucks with factory arms caster drops while camber goes negative. The result is a truck that wanders at highway speed, does not return to center after a turn, and wears the inner edge of the front tires.
A standard alignment can only work inside the adjustment range the existing hardware allows. On lifts of three inches or more with factory control arms, the geometry change often exceeds that range, and no amount of adjustment will bring the angles back. Adjustable upper control arms restore the range. We align trucks running aftermarket arms from Icon, Dirt King, Total Chaos, and Camburg, and we can install them as part of the service when the measurements call for it.
Off-road tires are expensive, and a lifted truck with bad geometry can ruin a set well before its tread life is up. The patterns tell the story: inner-edge wear points to excessive negative camber, outer-edge wear to excessive positive camber, and feathering or scalloping to a toe problem.
We diagnose which angle caused the wear, determine whether alignment alone can correct it or whether geometry correction has to come first, and set the alignment to limit future wear. The inspection also covers worn suspension components, because aligning a truck with a loose ball joint or tie rod end does not hold. You get the before and after measurements from the Hunter rack, plus a rotation and re-check interval based on how the truck gets used.
Ford F-150, Raptor, Super Duty, Chevy Silverado, GMC Sierra, Ram trucks, Toyota Tacoma, Tundra, and 4Runner all benefit from alignment correction, especially after lift kit installation or tire size changes. Towing stability and highway tracking depend on proper alignment setup.
Wrangler JK, JL, Gladiator JT, Grand Cherokee, Ford Bronco, and Bronco Raptor — solid axle and independent front suspension setups require different alignment approaches. Caster correction is critical on lifted Jeeps and Broncos for safe steering behavior.
