Suspension setup goes beyond replacing a worn part: MST Motorsports sets ride height, spring rates and damping for how the vehicle is actually driven. On a lifted Jeep, a modified truck or a high-mileage daily driver, that means matching the setup to the terrain and the loads it sees.
A desert and high-speed setup uses progressive spring rates that resist bottoming, compression damping that controls the chassis through successive hits, and rebound damping that recovers in time for the next one. Whoops, ruts and washboard on Southern Utah desert runs are what that combination is built for.
Heat management matters as much, because sustained high-speed running heats shock absorbers until the fluid thins and damping fades. We set fluid volumes, reservoir configuration and damping to hold performance through a long ride, and on dedicated desert machines external reservoirs and bypass tubes add heat capacity.
A rock crawling setup uses softer spring rates than a desert setup and damping tuned for slow-speed control, so each wheel travels independently and keeps traction on uneven ground.
On Jeep builds we configure droop travel, bump stop engagement and sway bar disconnects for full articulation on the trail. On rock-focused UTVs we set preload, compression and rebound to keep all four tires planted while holding the chassis off the obstacles.
An all-around setup balances trail riding, moderate speed, occasional rock sections and a comfortable highway run to the trailhead, using moderate spring rates, versatile damping and a ride height matched to the terrain you see most. That is the setup most Southern Utah drivers are after.
We start from how the vehicle is actually used, because a truck towing a UTV to Sand Hollow on weekends needs a different balance than a Jeep running trails daily.
Ride height sets ground clearance, tire fitment, travel distribution, alignment angles, driveline angles and handling, which is why we establish it first. Leveling kits remove factory rake and open clearance for larger tires, while lift kits raise the whole vehicle, and ride height set incorrectly shows up as alignment problems, component wear and driveline vibration.
After an installation we verify ride height at multiple points, check side-to-side symmetry and confirm travel in compression and droop. On adjustable coilovers ride height is set with spring preload; on UTVs it comes from shock preload, spring selection and limit strap configuration. Sagging springs are replaced with OEM or upgraded units, add-a-leaf packs or coilovers depending on the platform.
Suspension geometry correction reaches the angles alignment adjustment alone cannot, because modifying the suspension moves the factory geometry itself. We correct caster and camber with adjustable upper control arms on trucks and adjustable arms on Jeep solid axles. Pinion and driveline angles are set with arms, shims or differential drop kits, and CV joint operating angles are corrected on lifted trucks and UTVs.
Steering geometry gets the same treatment, with dropped pitman arms, adjustable drag links, high-steer kits and correct-length tie rods sized to the modified ride height. On Jeeps that is what removes bump steer, and correct geometry is what lets a Hunter Hawkeye Elite alignment hold.

Desert setups prioritize high-speed stability, bump absorption, and heat management — typically longer-travel shocks with aggressive compression damping and lighter rebound. Rock crawling setups prioritize maximum articulation and slow-speed control on uneven surfaces — softer spring rates and a different damping profile.

A leveling kit raises the front of a truck to match the rear ride height, removing the factory rake. It uses spacers, strut extensions, or replacement springs depending on the platform. We verify ride height, alignment angles, and headlight aim after installation.
Alignment adjusts toe, camber, and caster within the existing geometry. Geometry correction addresses the underlying angles and often requires hardware changes — adjustable control arms, pinion shims, differential drops — before alignment can be set correctly.
