Thousands of lifted and modified trucks, Jeeps, and SUVs are on the road across Washington County, and most of them still get routine service at quick-lube chains where the technician on the ticket has never installed a lift kit, replaced a uniball, or set caster on a modified front end. Modified vehicles deserve routine service from a shop that understands what changed when the vehicle was built. That is what this page is about.
Adding a lift, larger tires, or aftermarket suspension changes more than ride height. Larger tires increase unsprung weight and rotational mass, which changes brake pad wear, rotor heat cycles, wheel-bearing load, and effective load ratings. A lift kit alters alignment specs, driveline angles, steering geometry, and the working length of every suspension link. Aftermarket components — uniballs, Heim joints, upgraded ball joints, extended control arms, adjustable track bars, high-clearance tie rods — do not share the same inspection points, torque specs, or service intervals as the factory parts they replaced.
A factory-checklist oil change tech isn't trained to look at any of that. The engine oil gets changed, a sticker goes on the windshield, and the truck rolls out with worn Heim joints, a loose track bar bolt, or a CV boot torn by a new driveline angle. Six months later, that turns into a $2,000 repair that was $30 of grease and a wrench.

Every lift installation has a re-torque schedule, whether the manufacturer prints one clearly or not. Suspension hardware settles as it takes load, and untorqued bolts back out — that is how U-bolts fail, how track bar mounts crack, and how control arm hardware works loose over time. On lifts we install, we re-torque at the recommended interval after the initial install and re-verify at the first service afterward. On lifts installed elsewhere, we perform the same re-torque as a stand-alone service or as part of a routine preventive maintenance visit.
Alignment on a modified vehicle is not the same as a stock alignment. Post-lift caster, camber, and toe specs depend on the kit, the ride height, and the corrected geometry — set wrong, the truck eats tires and wanders under braking. Our alignment service is calibrated to the built ride height, not a factory chart. When ride quality matters on a lifted vehicle running larger tires, alignment pairs with our Hunter Road Force balancer to match-mount tire to wheel and deliver a smooth steering wheel from the start — the same process we use on every new tire install for modified vehicles.

You can — but a factory-checklist tech isn't looking at the parts that were added when the truck was modified. Extended control arms, uniballs, Heim joints, upgraded ball joints, aftermarket steering components, and track bars all have their own inspection points, torque specs, and greasing intervals that a quick-lube ticket won't cover. Every oil change at MST includes inspection of the modification-specific components so wear gets caught early.
The base fluid intervals don't change, but the inspection scope does. Lifts alter driveline angles, steering geometry, alignment specs, and load paths through the suspension. That means CV boots, U-joints, track bar bushings, tie rod ends, and ball joints wear on a different schedule than stock. Larger tires also change brake heat cycles and pad wear. We inspect all of it as part of routine service on any modified vehicle.
Uniballs and Heim joints typically want inspection at every oil change and full service every 5,000–10,000 miles depending on how the vehicle is used. Greaseable ball joints and tie rods should be hit every oil change. Re-torque of lift-kit hardware is done at 100–500 miles after install and re-verified during the first service after that. Actual intervals depend on the specific component, the manufacturer's spec, and how the truck is driven.
