We road force balance tires in the shop. A standard spin balancer measures weight distribution. It can tell you a wheel is balanced and be completely right, and the vehicle can still shake — because balanced is not the same as round. The Hunter Road Force machine presses a load roller against the spinning tire to simulate the weight of the vehicle on the road and measures how hard the assembly pushes back through the rotation.
A standard spin balance leaves some setups short, on a family sedan as much as a lifted truck. A spin balancer spins the wheel in the air and adds weights to cancel imbalance — which works on many stock setups, but does nothing about a tire with a stiff spot, a slight out-of-round condition, or a tire that is mismatched to the wheel. Those conditions send vibration into the steering wheel and seat that only gets worse as the tire wears.
Our Hunter Road Force balancer presses a large load roller against the spinning tire to simulate the weight of the vehicle on the road, then measures the force that assembly is actually transmitting up through the suspension.
