How often should transmission fluid be changed?
For a car or SUV in normal use: every 30,000–60,000 miles depending on the platform. For trucks that tow, run off-road, or see high heat in Southern Utah: every 20,000–30,000 miles. So-called 'lifetime' transmission fluid is a marketing term — heat and load break down every fluid, and staying ahead of it is dramatically cheaper than a rebuild.
Does towing affect my transmission?
Absolutely. Every tow puts thermal stress on transmission fluid, and thermal cycling is the primary killer of automatic transmissions. Trucks that tow UTVs to Sand Hollow, boats to Sand Hollow Reservoir, or fifth wheels down the Virgin River Gorge should be on an accelerated transmission service schedule. A transmission cooler add-on is often worthwhile.
Do you service transfer cases?
