Ford Bronco Lift Kit Options for Southern Utah: 2", 3", and 3.5" Compared
The sixth-gen Ford Bronco is one of the most lift-friendly factory off-roaders Ford has ever built — but the independent front suspension (IFS) changes the rules compared to a solid-axle Wrangler. Here in Washington, UT, where customers split time between Sand Hollow, Sand Mountain, and the I-15 commute to St. George, picking the wrong lift height costs you ride quality, tire life, and CV joint longevity. This is the framework we walk every Bronco customer through.
Why Bronco lifts are different from Jeep lifts
A Wrangler has a solid front axle — lift it, re-align the track bar, set caster, done. The Bronco runs IFS up front with upper and lower control arms, and the geometry is far more sensitive. Every inch of lift changes CV angle, ball joint loading, and ABS sensor wire length. That's why we won't install just any kit, and why post-lift alignment on a Bronco takes longer than it does on a truck.
What "leveling" actually means on a Bronco
Most Broncos sit roughly 1" to 1.5" lower in the front than the rear from the factory. A "leveling kit" closes that gap — usually 1" to 2" of front-only lift via a strut spacer or replacement coilover preload. This is the lightest-touch option and is reversible.
Option 1: Leveling kit or 2" lift
Fits 33" tires (315/70R17 typical), works with most factory wheels, and keeps CV angles inside the safe window. Daily-driver comfort stays close to stock.
Best for
- Drivers who want a more aggressive stance and a 33" tire
- Sasquatch trim owners who already have the 35s and just want to level the rake
- Anyone who tows a small trailer and doesn't want to mess with brake bias or proportioning
What we recommend
Quality strut spacers from a reputable manufacturer plus a post-install alignment. Skip the cheap eBay spacers — we've pulled cracked ones off Broncos with under 10,000 miles.
Option 2: 3" lift
This is the sweet spot for Southern Utah Broncos that see real trail use. A true 3" lift clears 35" tires comfortably, gives meaningful articulation gains, and — if done with a proper kit — keeps CV angles under the 30-degree danger threshold.
What changes at 3"
- You need upper control arms (UCAs) to recover caster and prevent ball joint bind
- Rear coilovers or extended bumpstops to match the front
- Driveshaft angle becomes a watch item, especially on 4-door Sasquatch builds
- Re-flash or recalibration of the steering angle sensor and ABS module
Best for
Drivers who run Sand Hollow and Toquerville Falls regularly and want 35s without sacrificing daily drivability.
Option 3: 3.5" long-travel or high-clearance lift
At 3.5" and above you are no longer "lifting" — you are redesigning the suspension. This means new tuned coilovers (Fox, King, or Icon), longer travel UCAs, and often a rear long-travel link kit. Expect to budget for re-gearing if you're moving to 37s.
What you gain
- 35"–37" tire clearance with full droop and full compression travel
- Real high-speed desert capability on washboard between Hurricane and Sand Hollow
- Tunable shock valving for the specific terrain you ride most
What you give up
- On-road precision — long-travel setups are softer and roll more in corners
- Fuel economy (37s on a 2.3L EcoBoost are punishing)
- Cost — a proper 3.5" long-travel build with shocks, UCAs, regear, and alignment runs well into five figures
The alignment problem nobody talks about
Every Bronco that comes through our shop after a DIY lift has the same issue: caster is wrong, toe is wrong, and the steering wheel is off-center. The factory alignment specs assume factory ride height. Once you lift, you need a shop with a Hunter Hawkeye Elite alignment system and a technician who understands IFS geometry. We do this every week.

- Mostly street, occasional Sand Hollow: 2" level + 33s
- Weekend trail rig, daily-driven: 3" lift + UCAs + 35s
