2026 Ford Bronco Maintenance Schedule and Oil Change Intervals
Ford publishes two maintenance schedules for the Bronco. There is a normal schedule, and a shorter one Ford calls special operating conditions. Most Broncos in Washington and St George belong in the second column, and Ford's own definition is the reason why.
This article covers the full-size, body-on-frame Bronco with the 2.3L and 2.7L EcoBoost engines. The unibody Bronco Sport runs a different schedule on a different platform, and it is covered in the Bronco Sport maintenance schedule.
Ford's Published Bronco Intervals
The figures below come from the Ford Bronco Owner's Manual, U.S. market, for the 2.3L EcoBoost four-cylinder and the 2.7L EcoBoost V6. They reflect the sixth-generation Bronco schedule as Ford publishes it, rather than one specific model year, and Ford does revise these between model years. Check the manual in your own glovebox against this table, or call (435) 256-8899 with your VIN and we will read the schedule that applies to your truck. Where Ford prints a separate figure for special operating conditions, it appears in the third column. Where the manual prints no severe figure, the column says so rather than guessing at one.

Three things are worth reading twice. The oil-life monitor is a ceiling, not a target: Ford states the interval will not go beyond 10,000 miles, and the oil gets changed once a year regardless of mileage. Ford also publishes a fallback figure of 5,000 miles or 6 months for the case where the monitor is reset by mistake or stops working, so that number is the floor Ford is willing to print for this engine. And the severe column is where the real gap sits: front axle and transfer case fluid drop from 150,000 miles to 30,000, and spark plugs from 100,000 to 60,000.
Ford's Special Operating Conditions, Read Against Southern Utah
Ford's published trigger list for the shortened schedule includes these conditions:
- Towing a trailer, or carrying a heavy load
- Operating in dusty conditions
- Short trips of less than 5 to 10 miles
- Extensive idling
- Temperatures well above or well below average
Washington hits five of five in an ordinary summer. Sand Hollow and Warner Valley are the dust line. The Virgin River Gorge grade is the towing line. June through September is the temperature line. Errands across town in July are the short-trip and idling lines. By Ford's own definition, a Bronco used here belongs in the severe column, which is a factual reading of the manual rather than a judgment about how hard you drive.
What Southern Utah Changes, Mechanically
Heat shortens the oil's useful life
Oil thins as it heats, and the film between bearing and journal gets thinner with it. A turbocharged engine adds a second load. The turbo bearing sees exhaust-side heat and soaks it back into the oil after shutdown. At 110°F ambient the oil never gets a cool start, so oxidation runs the whole drive cycle. This is the condition the oil-life monitor is reading when it calls for service earlier than the mileage ceiling.
Fine sand loads a filter faster than mileage predicts
Ford's 30,000-mile air filter number assumes paved roads. The red sand at Sand Hollow is fine enough to pack the pleats of a filter in a couple of weekends. A restricted intake filter costs power and richens the mixture. Ford publishes no shorter mileage for dust, which is why the manual says to inspect more frequently instead. We pull and look at the filter at every oil service.
Water, mud and dust are why the severe axle figure exists
The gap between 150,000 miles and 30,000 miles on front axle and transfer case fluid is the largest severe-service reduction Ford prints for this truck. Water crossings push past axle seals as the housing cools and draws a vacuum. Water in gear oil looks milky and grinds bearings quietly for months. Ford also calls for a fluid change after operation in water regardless of mileage. If you are crossing water at Sand Hollow, that is the service the manual is describing.
Towing the Gorge is a transmission heat event
The climb south out of St George into Arizona is a sustained pull in high heat. Transmission fluid temperature is what governs clutch pack life in the 10-speed. Ford's published figure is 100,000 miles with no separate severe number, so towing owners get more out of a fluid condition check than out of waiting for the odometer.
What We See Fail First on a Sixth-Generation Bronco
- Air filters loaded well before 30,000 miles on trucks that see the dunes
- Cabin filters loaded on the same schedule, usually noticed as weak air conditioning
- Cooling system leaks at plastic connection points after long summers
- Front-end alignment drift on lifted trucks, which shows up as inside-edge tire wear
- Suspension bushings and ball joints on trucks used regularly on rock
None of this is exotic. It is what heat, dust and rock do to a truck that gets used.
Servicing a Bronco to the Severe Column
Reading the shorter schedule is one half of the job, and performing the service against it is the other half. Our factory-trained, certified technicians work to the intervals printed for the engine and model year in front of them. Oil and filter service uses the specification Ford lists for the 2.3L or 2.7L EcoBoost rather than a generic weight.
Air and cabin filters are pulled and looked at rather than replaced on mileage alone, because dust exposure varies more than the odometer does. Front axle, transfer case and transmission fluid are checked for condition when the severe intervals come due. A digital vehicle inspection with photos accompanies maintenance work, so you see the filter, the fluid and the tire wear the technician saw.
Tire rotation and alignment
Ford ties tire rotation to the oil change interval, which makes it the most frequent recurring item on the Bronco schedule. Rotation moves wear around the vehicle, but it does not correct wear that alignment is causing. On a lifted Bronco, or one running 35s or 37s, caster and toe sit away from the factory settings and the inside edges go first. We measure and set alignment on Hunter Hawkeye Elite equipment for the ride height and tire size the truck actually runs.
Verify Against Your Own Manual
